Mining Magazine is a London-based magazine that covers mining policies as well as trends in new mining-related technologies. When I joined Mining Magazine in Montreal (working internationally and remotely) in 2021, I worked as part of a three-person team that produced a 32-page magazine every month, as well as daily news updates and in-depth webinar interviews with mine suppliers. During this period, several trends were ascendant in regards to the mining industry: continued pressure to improve environmental sustainability while balancing a tight budget, a growing recognition of the importance of minerals in the ecological transition (which became “critical minerals”), and the importance of adjusting mining processes to be more ecologically friendly. |

Each article required an enormous amount of research, first on the technologies involved, then on the environmental issues it faced as well as the economic policies in effect at the mine site. Policies were centred around mine sites in Brazil, the United States, Canada, South Africa, Mali, Serbia, Kazakhstan, and other countries.
Next, I needed to find the responsible individuals in companies and government departments to interview. Finally, I needed to tie together the research and the quotes from my sources to create an engaging, informative article. I followed this process for all my reporting, and I’m particularly proud of the following articles:
