Talking to the Media
Talking to the Media
I’ve interviewed thousands of CEOs and C-suite executives, for articles in industry magazines and top-level journalism outlets.
One thing I learned? You can always tell who has gone through media training, and who hasn’t.
Executives who had some media training were more confident in their delivery. They knew what they wanted to say, and they made sure they got that message across. They didn’t trip over their words, and they made sure to take their time in considering a question and developing a response.
Those executives who hadn’t gone through the training? More often than not, they hadn’t considered ahead of time how they were going to respond to tricky questions – and sometimes revealed too much.
They bungled their messaging, often veering off course while giving unfocused, unclear responses to important questions. They failed to convey their business’ top concerns or top projects, and left an impression that decision-making at their company was a messy affair at best.
In our media training sessions, I will help you frame your messaging, choose the best wording, and learn how to best respond to pointed questions.
We will also have mock interviews, where I will give you in-depth feedback on where you have challenges and how you can improve your performance.
